Medical Disclaimer
Individual hydration needs vary based on health conditions, pregnancy, climate, and other factors. This is a general estimate, not medical advice. Consult a doctor for guidance specific to your health situation, especially if you have kidney or heart conditions that affect fluid intake.
How Is This Calculated?
The baseline recommendation uses the midpoint of widely cited hydration guidelines: approximately 0.58 ounces of water per pound of body weight (or 32.5 ml per kg). This baseline is adjusted upward based on your activity level and climate conditions.
- Sedentary: No exercise adjustment added.
- Moderate: Adds ~12 oz (350 ml) for 30 minutes of daily exercise.
- Active: Adds ~24 oz (700 ml) for 60 minutes of daily exercise.
- Hot / Humid climate: Adds an extra 15% to account for increased sweating and fluid loss.
Why Hydration Matters
Proper hydration is essential for regulating body temperature, keeping joints lubricated, delivering nutrients to cells, and keeping organs functioning properly. Being well-hydrated also improves sleep quality, cognition, and mood.
Common signs of dehydration include thirst, dark-colored urine, fatigue, dizziness, and dry skin. Drinking water consistently throughout the day — rather than all at once — helps your body absorb and use fluids more effectively.
Tips for Drinking More Water

- Set reminders on your phone or use a hydration tracking app.
- Drink a glass of water before each meal.
- Eat water-rich foods like cucumbers, watermelon, and oranges.
- Flavor your water with lemon, mint, or berries if plain water feels boring.
